Español: Photo credit: Cerys Ross Evans We inadvertantly took part in National Bird Day (UK) yesterday morning and captured some great shots of bird table visitors from the comfort of the sitting room. I set up the camera and flashes and Cerys pressed the remote trigger. Canon EOS350D, Canon EFS 60mm macro. f/13.0, 1/250th second, ISO400. Camera on a tripod half a meter (20 inches) from the nut feeder being remote fired from the sofa using a pair of Pocket Wizard Plus II. Nikon SB28 camera right 1/16th, Nikon SB28 camera left 1/32 (slightly closer) both also fired with Pocket Wizard Plus II. Having the ambient light a few stops lower seems to add drama - it was quite a dark grey Winter day anyway. White balance : flash. Post: Cropped, adjusted levels slightly, unsharp mask applied (radius 40px, amount 0.17, threshold 0), bordered using Gimp/Linux. The birds didn't seem to mind the flashes at all (we had to fire them every now and them to stop them going into standby - even using the mode button technique) but the camera noise scared them, although after an hour some of them had gotten used to it. If we had the setup running for a day or so I think most of them would ignore it. Should maybe use custom white balance. |
